Program Description
Full Description
The Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance Studies allows students who have previous dance experience and a strong interest in another subject area, within or outside of the arts, the opportunity to combine the two into one plan of study. The curriculum provides students with a solid foundation in dance techniques and dance academics while allowing flexibility to incorporate another area or minor.
The B.A. degree program encourages exploration of areas that can be combined with dance to enhance opportunities for future employment.

Admission Requirements
Applications to the B.A. in Dance Studies are not being accepted starting with spring 2026 admission term.
The university affirmatively strives to provide educational opportunities and access to students with varied backgrounds, those with special talents and adult students.
First-Year Students on the Kent Campus: First-year admission policy on the Kent Campus is selective. Admission decisions are based upon cumulative grade point average, strength of high school college preparatory curriculum and grade trends. Students not admissible to the Kent Campus may be administratively referred to one of the seven regional campuses to begin their college coursework. For more information, visit the .
First-Year Students on the Regional Campuses: First-year admission to Kent State’s campuses at Ashtabula, East Liverpool, Geauga, Salem, Stark, Trumbull and Tuscarawas, as well as the Twinsburg Academic Center, is open to anyone with a high school diploma or its equivalent. For more information on admissions, contact the Regional Campuses admissions offices.
International Students: All international students must provide proof of proficiency of the English language (unless they meet specific exceptions) through the submission of an English language proficiency test score or by completing English language classes at Kent State’s English as a Second Language Center before entering their program. Former Students: Former ÂÌñÉçstudents who have not attended another institution since ÂÌñÉçand were not academically dismissed will complete the re-enrollment process through the Financial, Billing and Enrollment Center. Former students who attended another college or university since leaving ÂÌñÉçmust apply for admissions as a transfer or post-undergraduate student.
Transfer Students: Students who attended an educational institution after graduating from high school or earning their GED must apply as transfer students. For more information, visit the admissions website for transfer students.

- Perform a wide range of dance works within Western and non-Western dance forms.
- Articulate and communicate an embodied understanding of diverse dance forms; their histories, including the role of oppression; and their relationship and representation in the contemporary era of dance.

- Create, revise, reflect and present choreography.

Progression Requirements
- Promotion to the next level is at the discretion of the dance faculty.
- All students in the major must audition for all Dance Division concerts. To perform in the concert, students must be enrolled in a minimum of one dance technique course during the semester of the concert.
- Students enter on a probationary status and must maintain GPA requirements and professional standards as indicated in the student handbook in order to be allowed to audition for concerts and progress through to graduation.

Full Description
The Early Childhood Education Pre-Kindergarten (3-5 years) Endorsement Preparation non-degree program is designed for teaching learners ages three through five and is limited to those with a Resident Educator or Professional Kindergarten-Primary, Elementary, Family and Consumer Sciences or a valid State of Ohio special certificate for the education of the handicapped.
This program does not culminate in a master's degree. Students interested in a master's degree at ÂÌñÉçmust be fully admitted into and complete the requirements for the master's program, in addition to courses that are prescribed here for licensure.

Enrollment in ÂÌñÉç's College of Aeronautics and Engineering has significantly increased this fall, as demonstrated by students like freshman Michael Marr of Philadelphia, who is in the college’s professional pilot program. Students like Marr represent a 22% increase in new full-time freshmen in the college, which rose from 278 in 2022 to 340 in 2023. Full Description
The Early Childhood Education (P-5) Additional Licensure Preparation non-degree program is designed to provide licensure to teachers who hold an active resident educator or professional State of Ohio teaching license.
This program does not culminate in a master's degree. Students interested in a master's degree at ÂÌñÉçmust be fully admitted into and complete the requirements for the master's program, in addition to courses that are prescribed here for licensure.

Students must have an advising appointment with the graduate program coordinator to review former licenses, teaching experiences, employment, as well as field experiences, to determine the necessary courses and field experiences to compliment the student's existing valid Ohio license. All coursework for the license must be current. Additionally, a program of study must be filed in the Office of Graduate Student Services, 418 White Hall, prior to application for the licensure.

Internship will be determined by the faculty advisor, based on the student's transcript evaluation, prior employment and work history. For candidates employed full time in a teaching capacity, an individualized plan for completing the internship will be developed with the faculty advisor. This may include observations, partnering with a primary teacher, and development of a portfolio to demonstrate competency for teaching in the primary grades. The preschool internship may be completed during the summer I session. It should precede the primary internship.

Licensure Information
Prior to program completion, the candidate must demonstrate proficiencies in the following areas (including but not limited to): data literacy and analysis; use of research and assessment data; leadership and collaboration; utilizing and supporting appropriate technology for the discipline; and application of professional dispositions, laws and policies, codes of ethics and professional standards appropriate to their field of specialization.
Candidates seeking Ohio teaching licensure are required to pass specific requirements in order to apply for licensure from the Ohio Department of Education (ODE). Students should consult the early childhood education program for specific program requirements and refer to the Ohio Department of Education - Educator Preparation website for more information on assessments specific to licensure type.
Students who do not apply for license within 12 months of program completion may be subject to additional course requirement, based on Ohio licensure standards in force at the time of application.

Program Description
Full Description
The Master of Arts in Teaching degree in Early Childhood Education is for qualified students who possess at least a baccalaureate in a discipline other than teacher education. This program leads to Ohio licensure for teaching children in pre-kindergarten through grade five. Students have intensive, supervised field experiences in pre-school, primary and upper elementary grades, including those in urban/diverse settings.
This degree program requires 19 months of full-time study, which begins in mid-May of odd years and ends with a final student teaching experience and a December graduation.

Applicants will be assessed holistically, considering academic credentials; standardized test scores of reading, writing and mathematics; academic or professional references; non-academic dimensions; and other specific program criteria.

- Grades below C are not counted toward completion of requirements for the degree.
- Additional Coursework: An analysis of additional content-area coursework required at the post-undergraduate level will be completed before entering into the program, and a plan of study will be created based on transcript analysis and current licensure requirements by the Ohio Department of Education. A minimum C grade is required in each of these courses. This coursework would be in addition to requirements for the M.A.T. degree in Early Childhood.
