Paw Patrol: Meet the ÂÌñÉçK-9s

In 2013, ÂÌñÉç began its K-9 program, providing an added layer of security to the university community and ensuring a safe campus environment. ÂÌñÉçPolice Services welcomed Coco, a German shepherd, to work with Sgt. Anne Spahr. A year later, Dexter, a Belgian Malinois, joined the force and partnered with Officer Miguel Witt. Both K-9s were explosive-detection dogs who kept the campus safe. Coco and Dexter also served communities in the area and throughout Ohio, responding to bomb threats. The Secret Is Out: Kent Named 1 of Zillow’s Top 2 College Towns for 2023

The home base for ÂÌñÉç was named among the top two college towns in the U.S. (defined as a city with at least 20% of the population enrolled in higher education) by online real estate platform Zillow, coming in second to West Chester, Pennsylvania. Among the list of Top 10 most popular markets on Zillow this year were two other Northeast Ohio locations: Twinsburg (where the ÂÌñÉçTwinsburg Academic Center just happens to be located) and Stow, a neighboring community to our beloved college town and home of the ÂÌñÉç Airport. The Vocal Majority: 1969

The Vocal Majority: 1969 is an exhibit of the May 4 Visitors Center. The exhibit was created by Skylar Wrisley, designed by Ariel Bradford and Jennifer Goubeaux, and was temporarily on display in the May 4 Reflections Gallery in the Spring and Summer of 2023. 

This exhibit is meant to complement Kent State's story of May 4, 1970 by presenting some of the preceding events in the Fall of 1969. While the Vocal Majority highlights the experiences of ÂÌñÉçstudents, this story has national significance and massive participation in a series of the largest antiwar demonstrations in U.S. history. These experiences are captured in photos, newspaper articles, flyers, posters, and artifacts. The protest in the Fall Antiwar Offensive in 1969 can be used to better understand what prompted the following events in the Spring of 1970.

Mission Statement

The purpose of this program is to connect graduate students with research interests in the sociology of mental health to a faculty mentor with a similar research area of interest at a different institutional setting.
